The Coach And Its Railway

Headquarters is a B.R. Mk1 TSO coach built in 1954 and standing on its own length of track. Courtesy of Lord Braybrooke, the carriage shares its site with the Audley End Miniature Railway in an attractive woodland setting, adjacent to the famous Audley End House. Also on the site is the club room and multi-gauge track of Saffron Walden and District Model Engineering Society, who operate passenger- hauling trains on certain days in the summer season. Audley End can therefore boast a unique selection of railway attractions to satisfy tourist and enthusiasts alike.

The Club Headquarters - B. R. Mk 1 TSO Coach No. E398 - Adjacent to Miniature Railway, Audley End, Saffron Walden

The coach, acquired in 1981, is the club's second railway carriage on the same site. The original Club headquarters was a wooden Victorian six-wheeled saloon, now preserved at the East Anglian Railway Museum. Now stripped of seating, one half of the present coach now houses "Uttlesford Junction and Butler's Bridge", an extensive '00' gauge scenic model railway which features a wide range of member's stock. The Club opens the layout to the public on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday afternoons during the summer season. The remaining part of the coach serves as the clubroom and houses the Club's portable Scalefour LNER exhibition layout, "Fulfen Slade".
